August Theme Day and Skywatch Friday

The August Theme Day is Metal.

What is there about old, rusty metal? Especially when there are plants growing up and through it? It just fascinates me!

This is part of a display at the Timber Museum, of old logging equipment.

Bubbles in the Sky.

We had a great day while we had visitors, making bubbles with our new bubble machine, and a bubble wand.

Theme Day - "No" signs

The message on the sign is ordinary - the presentation is what caught my eye.

This sign is at the Steelhead Rearing Pond, so the shape is appropriate, and wood is definitely the proper medium here in the woods of the Olympic Peninsula.

There were a couple of other signs that caught my eye as well. I'll post the one that vied with this one tomorrow. It, too, is very "Forksy."

Theme Day: Bridges

Bridge to Nowhere: We came across this structure at LaPush, about 20 minutes west of Forks on the Pacific Ocean. We were told that there used to be a resort that the bridge went to. The river bends around this piece of land, creating a sort of peninsula here. Very pretty area, probably much prettier in the summer when everything is green. You get to this bridge by driving past the Coast Guard station to where the road ends.
The sign at the upper right of the picture is posted on a nearby tree. This would be difficult to reach to be able to attempt to cross...

September Theme Day - Street Lights/Street Signs

These lampposts are all along our main street, Forks Avenue (also known as Highway 101). I like the old-fashioned style, and the hanging flower baskets on them. They hang seasonal signs on some. They're pretty when lighted as well. The library sign is carved wood - appropriate for a timber town. The library is part of the North Olympic Peninsula Library System.

My husband has watched them water the baskets early in the morning using a pickup truck with a tank in the back. One would think we get enough rain around here (10 feet per year), but summer has been drier than usual, we're told. Everything else is green on its own. No sprinkler systems anywhere, that I know of.
