local carvings

Woodcarvings outside a local home. The roses are carvings that are in several places around town. The bear looks like a Den's Wood Den carving, but I'm not sure.
This was taken during the summer, when things were flowering.

Meet Edgar

We went to a few garage sales today, taking advantage of the sunshine to take a day off. As we pulled around a curve in one driveway, we were greeted by this carving. We asked about it, and were told his name is Edgar, and he came with the house. He looks as though he is peering over something - maybe the tree wasn't as big when he was put there. He is looking toward the river.

The smaller image is a close-up of Edgar.

Bear climbing tree

Remember the song "The Bear Went Over the Mountain" ... to see what he could see? This bear climbed a tree to see what he could see.
There are lots of large carvings around town; but I believe this is the largest. This is in someone's front yard. I left a small piece of the roof of the house in to give it perspective. The gray color is from the weathering, though we don't know what kind of wood it is. 1989 is carved into it, with initials.
Cool to drive by.
