Kalaloch Campground
Olympic National Park

As the sun moves through the sky, so do the shadows amongst the trees.
Late in the day, the shadows from one stand of trees create stripes upon the ground and into the next stand of trees.  The sun is behind us here.
It's so interesting to watch as different parts of the forest are revealed and shadowed as the day goes on.  It's almost a different forest as each portion has its turn.

Our World Tuesday is "Where family-friendly bloggers share images of their world and tell us a little bit of the story about the place."

H is for ...

Hoh River and Hoh Rainforest
Majestic Olympic mountains, complete with glaciers and snow,
budding trees, and a small piece of the Hoh River in the foreground.

Mossy carpet under old growth trees.
Dazzling sun shining through moss-draped, towering trees.

Hoh River, rushing, crystal clear and cold,
from the mountains to the Pacific Ocean.
Beautiful!
Real rain forest right here on the Olympic Peninsula,
temperate rainforest, not tropical.
Part of the Olympic National Park.

ABC Wednesday - F is for ...

... Forest, of course (this was taken on the walk to Marymere Falls, voted the best hike on the Olympic Peninsula).
... and more forest, since there's so much here.
...Ferns in the forest (you can't keep the ferns from growing everywhere - they're even growing up from underneath our deck).
... Cape Flattery framed by firs (Cape Flattery is the most NW point on the 48 lower states).

... and, as a quilter, I had to include fabric at Chinook Pharmacy here in Forks.

F was actually no problem here in Forks. I was glad to be able to find so many this time. I'm having fun with this.

Two more pictures of parts of the pathway to Cape Flattery, a couple of flatter portions, with beautiful forest and undergrowth surrounding.

Sun in the forest

This is from our trip to the Sol Duc Cascades. We love the way the sun shines down and through the trees, giving a surreal quality to the forest, and highlighting the moss draping the branches.
The forest is so peaceful, the quiet mostly broken only by the sound of wind rustling through the trees, or birds calling.
